     It is with great pleasure that I announce that on the 11^th of May, at Belgrade's Zvezdara Theatre, the world preview screening of the documentary film 'Shaban'  took place.

 

     This event, organised by Studio za Pozorište & Film (Studio of Film and Theatre) in conjunction with CorD magazine, was attended by members of the diplomatic community in Belgrade, (including the ambassadors of Finland, Slovakia and Pakistan) and representatives of the international cultural community

      (including the Director of the British Council in Serbia and senior representatives of the French Cultural Centre and the Cervantes Institute),

     as well as other high profile members of the cultural, NGO,  entertainment and Roma communities in Belgrade.

 

     The film was warmly received by all. H.E. Ana Marija Korpi, Finnish Ambassador in Belgrade, decribed the film as "a wonderful breath of fresh air that captured the spirit of Shaban's musical genius". A.S. Babar Hashmi, Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of Pakistan in Belgrade, said that the documentary film Shaban "had opened his eyes to a singer about whom he knew very little and who's genius should be made more widely known."

    Finnish Ambassador in Belgrade, H.E. Anna Maija Korpi, chats with AS Babar Hashmi, Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of Pakistan in Belgrade, at the exclusive preview screening of Miloš Stojanović's documentary about legendary Serbian Roma singer Šaban Bajramović - entitled 'Shaban'.

 

     Mark Pullen, editor in chief of CorD magazine, said: "...this film has the potential to break the mould on Roma stereotyping the world over..." and "...Shaban has had a troubled and infinitely interesting life, but his intelligence and specific notion of logic make him one of the world's truly great characters."

 

      Plans are now afoot to include the documentary film Shaban in projects aimed at rebranding the Roma people during the ongoing Decade of the Roma, as well as screening the film at hi-profile international film festivals and world music events.

       Na naše veliko zadovoljstvo, 11. maja ove godine u beogradskom Zvezdara Teatru, održana je svetska pretpremijera dokumentarnog filma “Šaban”. Ovom događaju, organizovanom od strane Studija za pozorište i film a u saradnji sa magazinom CorD

prisustvovali su članovi diplomatskog kora u Beogradu (uključujući i ambasadore Finske, Slovačke i Pakistana) i pretstavnici međunarodnih kulturnih centara (uključujući direktora British Council-a i više predstavnike francuskog kulturnog centra i Instituta Servantes), i drugi uvaženi pretstavnici polja kulture, društvenog života, NGO sektora i Romske zajednice.

 

        Film je toplo primljen od strane svih prisutnih.  H.E. Ana Maija Korpi, ambasadorka Finske u Beogradu opisala je film kao “dah svežeg vazduha koji je uhvatio duh Šabanovog muzičkog genija”. A.S. Babar Hashmi, zvaničnik ambasade Pakistana u Beogradu rekao je da je dokumentarni film “Šaban”  "otvorio njegove vidike za pevača o kome je znao veoma malo i čiji muzički genije treba učiniti šire poznatim".

      Mark Pullen, glavni urednik CorD magazine, rekao je: "Ovaj film ima potencijal da razbije karakter u svetu uvreženih stereotipa o Romima” i "Šaban je imao težak i beskrajno interesantan život, ali njegova inteligencija i specifična životna logika čini ga autentičnim likom u svetskim razmerama “
